I want to put my 180 against the wall in the living room where i have it on a angle right now( the sump is in the basement) If I build the stand it will only be 69" long since the stairs hang over at the bottom

If the tank is hanging over 3" will that be ok. I will put 3/4" plywood on top of the stand and am thinking the top part of the stand I will use 2x6

My wife wants it flush against the wall and I am going to agree with her as I want to keep the 180 and Im going to finally admit that this will be my last build. Having some health issues I cant keep going back and forth

So you are saying the bottom of the stand will be 69 and the top part will be 72? If the 2 by 6 part runs the full width the and hangs off 3 inches it will make no difference at all.

2x6 frame, with 5.5" dimension oriented vertically...3/4" ply on top of that?

That will be absolutely no problem, assuming you build the stand soundly. 3" overhang is not a big deal just make sure the platform (72" long portion) is stiff and that you have more than just the plywood overhanging.

I would never allow a tank to overhang a stand.

I think I worded this wrong, the stand will be 72" long, the legs will 69" apart
