I needed a new winter hobby to get me off my butt and a saltwater aquarium is it. I decided to go full bore and make my own stand as well. Originally I told myself (and my wife) that I was only gonna buy uses and spend about 800.00. Well that got away from me quickly. Wanted stand to be nice and match living room furniture so that meant 300.00+ for oak plywood and trim. Then I couldn't find a decent used tank somI bought new. Long story short I'm in for about 2600.00 so far. Way more than I was planning , but appaerentyl that's the norm for this hobby. This got me the following:

90 gallon Aqueon tank with offset overflow 300.00 on sale
Assorted plumbing 200.00
Reef Octopus 150int Skimmer 229.00
Trigger Ruby Sump 36 350.
Dry rock from Reef savers 100lbs 162.00 shipped
Carib sea 50/50 split of pink Fiji and Bimini pink live sand 100lbs 150.00 shipped
Eheim Jager 200w heater 32.
BRS 4 value RO/DI 75GPD 150.00
SB reeflight 450.00
Jebao RW-8 x2 164.00
Jebao DC 12000 return pump 119.00
Wood and supplies for stand 300.

Stand is almost done and I just picked up the tank. Most everything else will come this week. UPS guy is gonna hate me. Any thoughts or recommendations please let me know. Here is the stand so far.

Yes my tank will be in my living room. I feel like all I do is research and the tank will eventually be a mixed reef tank. Yes, This is my first tank.

Try to make a smaller size stand for all the controls. About 15-20 inch long. U will need chiller for later on. For the summer time. Check the power box make sure 15amps -20 amps. Job on that stand is very beautiful love it

I am hoping to,skip the chiller for now. . Between living in the woods and the climate control my house doesn't go below 72 in the summer. I think I'm gonna end up mounting controls on exterior side of the stand. They won't be visible and the cabinet is already built. There's no adding to it at this point.

build a new small stand right next too if u can move it later on. Will be easy use as ato systems with larger tank For the. ato tank u don't ready have a lot of space in the sump. That's why I was thinking use for chiller or ato tank this way will keep you back together lolz. For the long run. If short run. U have too add water every day. That's few gallon a day

Found these for 25.00 each. They used to have olives in them. I'm gonna pick up two. One for RO/DI and one for salt water. No I just need to find an affordable pump that can raise the water 20' or so to make water changes painless.

I may be wrong here but isn't all of the weight being supported by the nails and not your wood?I'd run a few pieces that fit in-between the top and bottom so the weight is supported with wood

The frame wasn't finished/filled in yet. Each corner was filled in with 2x4. There are 3 2x4 at each corner. If that's not substantial enough I don't know what is.

My thought exactly...there are no supports under the top rail. The tank will only be supported by a few nails according to that first picture. A couple of 2x4's between the top and bottom rail can be easily added even now that the stand is complete.

Okay good I guess we couldn't see it with the final touches on it :)

Tank is up on the stand and relocated to the living room. Next step is re-caulking inside the stand. I used old caulk to go around interior cabinet of the stand to prevent water from getting under the stand. Caulking was old and never set up. Once I remove that mess and redo it with fresh caulk I will start the plumbing. Does anyone caulk the around the outside of their stand to prevent standing water from getting under the stand? The speaker next to the stand will be going away once I find a suitable small wall mountable surround sound speaker.

I've seen a roll of shower liner at Lowes for around $30. It basically looks like a roll of thick plastic that I'm thinking of lining the inside of my stand (bottom and about 4-6 inches up each side) in order to help contain any leaks from getting anywhere near the bottom of my stand...and hence protect the wood floor underneath! Below is a link to the stuff I'm talking about and a picture of how it is installed.
