Bryopsis Cure: My Battle With Bryopsis Using Fluconazole

Did Fluconazole Kill all of your Bryopsis?

  • Yes

  • No

  • I'm treating my tank with it now.

  • I love Bryopsis and I'm mad that everyone is killing it.

Need some input on a game plan. I'm 4 days away from the 14 days. The majority is gone but I have a feeling I will have a little hanging around. Instead of dosing again, would it work to just go longer than the 14 days? Or end treatment and hope it goes away/my cuc takes care of the rest?

Note to others, If I was to do this again, I would definitely leave the skimmer off for at least a week and used a filter BAG from day 1.
Rob Lion,
Looking good :)

I'm just catching up :(

Why would you leave the skimmer off?

Thanks, GoVols

I would just let it go longer. Some people let the treatment go for 21 days or so before it killed all of their algae.

Hey GoVols,

we turn the skimmer off so that it doesn't skim out the medication, we also turn off Granulated Active Carbon too.

I turned my skimmer on after just a day because there was a lot of initial die off.... but in doing so I think i skimmer out a lot of the fluconazole doing it :(

But even so, after 9 days I'm happy.... 5 more days to go... :)

So your saying to turn off skimmer and pull out chemical filtration but run mechanical filtration?

I am sitting at the dinner table in front of the tank and am thinking.....

No need for vibrant once the offender is gone. I haven't run gac and stopped nopox on Sunday AND haven't touched the glass. Look how clear it is :D

Not quiet GoVols, filter BAGS have larger "holes" in them, so the medication flows through them but traps the bigger chunks of loose algae, whereas protein skimmer can pull out the smallest of particle sizes thus removing the meds.

Ideally no filtration would be best to ensure the meds stay in the tank, but this stuff works so well, after a few days your tank like an algae blizzard :)

Rob Lion,
I'm "Thick" on this :)

I have no clue what a filter "BAG" is?

Do you have a link showing one.

(I learned "Thick" from another UK friend) :D

hahahahhahahaa

A filter bag is like a media bag you put carbon etc into, it's very thin walled and not "fluffy"...

Please don't make me explain "fluffy" Freddie ! :D

Rob Lion,

You can play with your new scape as long as it does not interfere with your "State of the Hobby" speech next Tues. Night. :D

So It's more porous than a filter sock so it won't clog as much?
