So I want to get an ATO for my new nuvo mini 40 tank. The jbj setup is around $100. Wondering if for a little more I can get a controller that can handle ato that would also give me some more controll.

Maybe a reefkeeper lite or apex jr?
Would be nice to have temp monitoring and maybe ph monitoring.

Hmm either one is nice. I started off with a regular Apex on a 37 freshwater tank
Look for the features you want, study learn about the two and differences and how comfortable you are with coding or not.
Look at the cost for add on probe and possible expansion
Have fun

I looked at controllers for months and months, had my mind set on the Reef Keeper, but ultimately ended up getting an APEX. If you're sure you want the very minimum, I'd say the Reef Keeper is a great choice. If you want the ability to expand, I'd have to suggest the APEX. That's what ended up selling me on it anyway.

If you get the RKL and you ever decide you need more you can always ugrade to the RKE or Archon head unit. This will allow you to use the modules you aquire with the RKL. For ATO you will need a SL module of some kind or a SW5 module to get a switch input for a float switch.
