You don't need a miter saw to cut your 2x square. Just use the speed square as a guide. Line up the blade on the correct side of the line, put the speed square down against the side of the circular saw and you will have a perfect 90 degree cut.

I also used this technique when I built the stand for my tank, it definitely works, although I have since bought a miter saw which makes life much easier.

If buying a miter saw doesn't make financial sense, a cheap miter box is always an alternative. You can get one for a few bucks at lowes or hd and they are easy to use, just require a little elbow grease.

Heck the best place to get tools is...a pawn shop!! I work in construction and you can get tools for half of what they're worth at those places!!

Make home Depot cut the plywood for free

Good luck getting any semblance of a straight cut from HD. I had them cut plywood into shelves for me some year back. They used a panel saw that did a very poor job of making straight accurate cuts. Do yourself a favor and have the cutting done at a real lumberyard, even if it costs a bit more.

Lumber yards are very competitive with their pricing,if not cheaper than the folks in the Orange,Blue or Green.

Thanks Adrian
