I have a bunch of the white dry rock and I'm wanting to try drilling them and using acrylic rod to anchor pieces together.

One guy on YouTube said he used diamond tip drill bits, and it went through like butter, but never showed the bit. I beleive 1/2" and 5/8" sizes.

I haven't found any diamond tip twist bits, only hole saw's, but maybe these are what he ued ?
Don't know why thay wouldn't work just fine ?

Have any of you used the diamond tip or do you just use a hammer drill (if needed) and pointed masonry bits ?

Any stone, tile or glass bit will work.
Drilling reef rock isn't that hard to drill.

So diamond tiped are a waste ?

Is a hammer drill needed ?
I have a 1" hammer drill, but it's a heavy & large beast.

Also, spiral bits or not ?

I would skip the hammer drill as the rock is soft and will most likely crumble and break depending on how porous it is. A standard masonry bit and drill and take you time and you will be good

I have about 50# of that rock and drilled effortlessly with a mason bit, although mine was wet.

In my 15" piece I did about 6" and then about 3" into the smaller piece (about 5").

I'm not big on documenting but here's a pic from my tank thread.
