I am pretty proud of myself.

On my last tank, which was a 120. I modded an 8 bulb Tek light by removing the middle 4 bulbs and installing two Gen 3 Radions. I absolutely loved that light and had tremendous success with coral growth and it was visually pleasing to me.

I got into the reef game too late and missed the MH bus, I started with T5, but was never totally satisfied with the flat look, and lack of a dawn/dusk effect. I like to watch the tank wake up, and go to sleep.

That being said, I have never had great success with coral growth under just LED. That fixture gave me the best of both worlds.

I am in the process of building my dream tank after selling the old house and the tank together (which you can see here: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/terrys-180-sps-peninsula-upgrade.218181/)

I picked up a used MH/T5/LED moonlight fixture from a guy locally. I ripped out the MH components, kept the moon lights and installed 2 of the three Kessils (the 3rd should be here next week). I am absolutely thrilled with how this came out:

I had a Radion and a Kessil over the tank before this. The Radion wouldn't fit between the T5 bulbs, and, every single person who came over said the end of the tank lit by the Kessil looked better than the side lit by the Radion. Nothing against Radion, I loved them, but you simply cannot compare the shimmer.

I cannot wait to get the third light and get this baby hooked up to my Apex.

In a perfect world, the Kessils would be lower profile (Radion style) and wouldn't hang low like that, but honestly, I don't mind the look.

I think it looks great! If I ever upgrade my tank, I would like to have a T5/LED Hybrid!

Thanks. I am really happy with it.

I don't like the look of canopies (maybe another function of me being too late to the reef game.) and the tank is in the living room, so the light has to look nice.

Frankly, I am a little surprised you don't see more fixtures modded for LEDs. It was pretty simple. Rip out the MH components, drill some holes for the cords, drill some holes for bolts to hold the Kessils in place and voila.

Old post, but maybe you're still kicking around r2r. Are the T5's dimmable on this unit? I'd like to purchase one on eBay I've found, but it doesn't specify if it is.

Sweet setup! Will definitely use this for ideas when I start my canopy.
