Hello, tired of dosing manually but never seen or heard of anyone with a Alk/Cal automatic dosing machine on their zoa/paly dominated system..
Would love to hear the pro/cons of putting a 2 Part doser on a zoa dominated system..
Also,,would Kalk in a gravity fed Ato be better..
Thanks

Alk---8.3
Cal---400
Mag--1320
No3--7.5
PO4--never ever had a test result other than 0.0 but have very light algae
200gal total system..3 tank on a central sump,,35 gallon refugium with gracillara,,skimmer ran every other day, T5 lights on all tanks, 25 chromis,,3 blennys,,various damsels and plenty pep shrimp, emeraldc crabs and snails.
feed fish fairly heavy..
all my corals are zoa/palys with 1 frog spawn,1 blasto ,1 ORA easter egg chalice..
Mag stays stable but dosing 40mls. Alk everyday...
should i stay with 2 part on a doser or use kalk in a gravity fed ATO

either. both work. some RAVE about kalk. dunno. Mostly being practical, what fits under the tank and my wallet. the Jebao two pump doser was $65 the 3 part was $69:rolleyes:
if your concerned on Mag you wanna leave an open doser when using two part . OR kalk and mag on a two pump.

I have 2 tanks
cal alk and empty,,,,,,, mag use is easy with manual for now, waiting to decide on vinegar or mag.
Cal alk,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, mag is manual. SEEMS to be even use. Mag tests are terrible.
had to go 2 pump on my 30 as its a small space.

I'm keeping my cal and alk low ish high 300s all in the 7 8 range. Mag is prob a bit high ish cuz the Red Sea is a pain.
I had bigger growth in sps with the higher alk but it was actually too much and some stuff blew up fast.
I have to move some stuff around to the Smaller tank right now and I'll bing the alk back up to the mid 8 and cal to low 400s, I hope ,for the sps. And see what i can do to not lose my mind on the Red Sea mag test.
It does appear though some tanks eat more mag even though it should be somewhat even across all three according to Randy. And I've read him saying that that's possible too I believe.

I have a zoa dominated tank, my parameters would always be off before I started dosing and I figured it was the coraline algae that was causing. Now that i dose my numbers are fine.

With Bionic, you don't need to dose mag correct?

I run my numbers CA 440 / Alk at 8-12 / Mag 1410
Running Radion XR15 Gen 2
For me to get my mag around 1,400 id have to dose almost 2+ liters of BRS mg mix (250g tank). That much mg also artificially elevates the SG.

I gave up and now i just dose to around 1320 to 1350 which "only" requires around 1+ liter of mag a month...usually try to do it right after a water change.
