What micron thickness are your socks. 100 microns fill it up mighty quick. May want to confirm you are using 200 microns

I received these from the LFS (the tank was already assembled). I guess they could be 100 micron, never thought of that. How would one tell?

THANK YOU, you have just saved my sanity. Went up to WWC and looked at their 225 micron's they are selling and it's a fine netting. The socks I have are like a solid piece of fabric (not felt though). Can't wait to get home and run them!! $9.99 ea too, quite the deal.

Are the filter socks slimy at all when you take them out to clean them? Any kind of bacterial bloom will clog socks VERY fast. Had that issue when my tank was new , not unusual in a new tank.

Not really, I think my problem was the 100 micron size. I had to either pour water out of them or drain them for 2-3 minutes forcing water out of the bottom. Never got any sort of slime on me.

Ya that's what I thought I had, this was pre assembled at the LFS, was actually missing the socks so he pulled 2 from the sump of a 350, which should have also been 225. Clearly what I have are not 225's. I'll snap some pics of them when I get home.

Those look like mesh socks. Your typical sock is a 200 micron felt (polypro) sock. I know that when i run a 200 micron 4" x 8" sock in my system, they can run for a week before they start backing up. I try to change them out ever few days. That is at about 800 GPH, or 400 GPH per sock. FWIW, that looks to be the standard ring that most manufacturers use. You could buy the ringed socks from BRS for allot less than $10, and should work just as well.

Lookslike a vertex sock (by the way the only one to fit into the reefer slot) alot of people complain to them clogging and getting ruined fairly quickly. The left is 225 mesh middle is 225 felt then 100 felt.

I have a 72g reef amd replace the sock every 2-3 days. After i tank mine out i try to squeeze the water out of it and the water is crystal clear, i thought it would at least be a brown color, is this normal? The sock looks pretty dirty or am i doing something wrong?

So your first mistake is in even using filter socks. I haven't used them in a year now and my tank is crystal clear with no issues whatsoever. They are a waste of time!!!
