Powder Blue, Yellow, and Naso Tangs
A clown and a CBB.

40 gallon QT, Fluval 406 canister filter. Running air stone, PVC, heater.

I know that my display had ich so I removed the fish and want to treat at least for crypto. I like hypo and had success with it. If I had used it on my last addition I would have prevented ich. Now I will treat every new fish.

I have refractometer for hypo, with Cal. Solution. Also have Prazipro.

Also have Cupramine and Coppersafe.
Will have to order the appropriate copper test kit.

Best way to prevent disease is to QT them; you can be proactive and use hypo or copper in QT, but the best way is to keep there and observe them. @Tahoe61 has the best idea though, prophylactic treatment with copper, chloroquine phosphate, acriflavine bath for 90 minutes. @Humblefish has created a sticky for disease treatments and prevention: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/treatment-options-index.247573/

I would think, proper diet and water quality would be a better way to prevent diseases. Neither of the two are good for fish..

I know that my current fish have been exposed to ich. I removed them from the display for treatment.

I QT all my fish however my last addition came from another reefer and I didn't not treat it for crypto, just used some Prazipro.

I don't have CP and getting it requires a Vet.

I have Copper and have completed hypo before with success.

My question though is Copper or Hypo?

Hypo is less stress full and easier for me to perform correctly. But there are hypo resistant strains.

Copper is poison but effective. I will need a test kit.

What do you guys use?

I think I want to do the Cupramine.

Should I start today after feeding or let the new fish settle in a day or two?

I think I want to start today after a little food.

The two big concerns with hypo are that there are ich resistant strains and it is hard to do properly.
As the most recent example...

Ok so the bottle recommended 16 drops per 10.5 gallons.

I'm going to start with 8drops/10gallons. And repeat every 48 hours until I have reached the recommended levels.

How often will I need to test the Copper level, need to know how many tests I will need.

If you are using cupramine, you want the Seachem copper test. You'll want to test daily at a minimum. If you want to be cautious then test before adding copper and test an hour after adding more. When you have it at .5ppm then you can go back to testing daily to be sure it's staying there.

Already on its way, thank you.

Thank you for the testing advice.

Ok are we missing anything?

Normal temp, 78-80?

Is a slightly lower salinity ok for Copper treatment? I've read that lower salinity 1.021 can be good for fish.
