Joy oh joy - the fun part about living in FL is upon us... gotta head to the store for more batteries and bubblers... looks like we may be getting hit by a tropical storm and possibly a hurricane by Wednesday. Living on the central west coast we don't normally need generators. The last time was 2004 we had a power outage over a few hours with hurricane Charley. However, I hear this will most likely be an active season so I need to at least invest in a battery back up.

I'm thinking that I'll need 3 air pumps. I already have 2. So 2 in the 180g dt, 1 in the sump, 1 in the 45g and 1 in the 20L frag tank. Maybe 3 in the dt... thoughts?

Don't have a battery backup so if power is lost might have to be manual every 10 to 15 minutes for 10- 15 minutes lol. Hope it doesn't come to that though. My tank has been down with no air or movement for about 3 hours before without issue. However the house was cool. If power is lost now it won't be cool.

Even an inverter run off your car/battery + long extension cord will work.

Depending on your wattage needs you might find a large enough one to help power other things on the DT also.

Just put a brand new 12v/ 850 battery in Glenn's van a few days ago ;) I may just run the wp power heads in all the tanks and add one to the big sump. That way it's very low power usage. Just in case power goes out for a day or 2. Then every once in a while run the return pump

Thanks Alex :D Yep that's what I hear. I had no idea this was coming because I rarely watch TV or listen to the regular radio these days. I got woke up by the weather radar on my phone this morning. The 1st band of rain has just about passed so I will go outside in a little bit and attach the inverter then run the power cords in. Just to be prepared in case of power loss while down pouring and lightning is occurring.
