OK - Since I am the newly elected "special Events " person for the club - I figured this is a great "special event" for the club to go to. See link below to the 2017 Lear Fragswap.

2017 - LAKE ERIE FRAG FEST
Saturday, February 25th, 11:00am-4:00pm
Strongsville Holiday Inn
15471 Royalton Rd.
Strongsville, OH 44136

http://learclub.com/Frag Fest.cfm

I do not think anything is on the Fragswapper or Reeftrader websites for this event yet - but I will post link to those when it is determined which website they will use. For the past 2 years trades were hosted on Reeftrader.com. Last year we had a good group that went to this event and had a great time- then most of us went out to dinner/drinks. So, lets get a list of those interested - so we can organize vehicles to ride share, etc. Just post if you going for sure, also if your willing to drive or need a ride or if you just possibly interested in going and have questions. I will be going for sure.

We will car pool to the event and the club will pay for gas and entrance fees for any member of the club who is paid up on dues that wishes to go with the group.

I'll be going. I would be willing to drive, but my soul isn't the best for fitting a bunch of people, plus coolers and Styrofoam boxes lol. I am already accounting for @eleet riding shotgun, so whoever wants to squeeze in the back between the coolers is more then welcome, or we can have 3 people with coolers on their laps:)

Ya, I noticed that as well. Kinda weird. Looks like my son will be going with me - so have no room in the truck for anybody else. But if you are bringing a tank or something else large to sell or trade - the back of my truck is at your disposal. I figure we should all meet near the turnpike exit on Rt 8 at Eat N Park a few hours before it starts, so about 9 am - or elsewhere if someone wants to chime in. We could discuss more at the Club Meeting on Jan 21st.

In years past we have met at the Perkins in Cranberry for breakfast before heading out. Personally it makes no sense for someone coming from my direction to meet off of Rt8. No matter where you are coming from in the surrounding area cranberry is along the way.

Also in years past we have planned as to be an hour early because the line gets huge and we have wanted the gift bags that may run out after the first couple hundred people. Not to mention buying up all the vendor coral before the other 800 people get to it. Obviously like anything the best deals go fast.

It is approximately a 2 hour drive from Cranberry. Last year we met at 7:30 for breakfast and left a little before 8:30am and arrived 40 minutes early. I would say ideally we would get breakfast at 7 and leave at 8:00am. That thread can be found here https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/february-pmasi-meeting-field-trip.231614/

Don't let the lack of posts yet on reeftrader fool you, LEAR is HUGE!!! Last year there was like 40 grand worth of stuff sold before they even opened the doors and there were close to 900 people in attendance. It is one of the largest shows in this region of the country.

Perkins in basically across 19 from the turn pike. We need to confirm head count and drivers since this is a club sponsored trip and the club is paying for it. We obviously need to talk about it at the meeting next weekend since most of our members do not frequent R2R. I will post something on our web site and have something posted in both the E-mail and facebook.

It is still a little ways out so we do not need a finalized list until after next months meeting. We basically need to know how much money we need to provide to cover the cost of gas, tolls and admission for those members who are going. It cannot be show up at Perkins at 7 without letting us know ahead of time that you are attending and want to drive by yourself in a big truck truck that guzzles gas. We need the finalized list of people attending and those driving by February 18th, next months meeting.

Being that this is a reef forum in which users share their experiences with one another, I though I would share with you my experience with the Administrator of LEAR. I attended the LEAR frag swap in 2015 and used a site called “reef trader” to reserve some coral for pickup/payment on the day of the swap. Since then I started my own frag tank so sell corals at local swaps using reef trader. I’ve used reef trader to buy and now sell some of my frags. Another local reef club, C-Sea held a frag swap a few months ago. I also bought and sold frags using reef trader. However, this swap the administrators of C-Sea worked out a deal with a friend of theirs (Also my personal friend) who is a store owner to use reef trader as well instead of opening up a booth. Said friend gave me his pictures of coral and what he wanted and I happily posted them on reef trader for him.

Fast forward and the LEAR frag swap is about a month out so I began posting my corals from my frag tank to sell again. I received a message from the president of LEAR stating “Its been brought to my attention that your selling corals for an unpaid vendor. Remove listings or you will be banned from reef trader and LEAR frag swap”… To much debate explaining how I am not selling coral for a vendor and the “said Vendor” only had arrangements to sell with a different club, the president of the LEAR frag swap “Erik” became very ill tempered and unpleasant. No matter what I said or tried to find ways to explain and prove myself he already had the preconceived notion that I was selling coral through reef trader for a vendor. Which is against their rules that you cannot sell coral using reef trader if you own a store without paying fees even though you don’t have a booth.

I continued to convey my message but Erik’s reply was simply: "Don't get sh*tty with me or ill ban you" and “Your banned from the frag swap and will be escorted out of the building if attended” and “Don’t waste your time, we don’t care” I thought the purpose of a frag swap was for fellow hobbyist to share, trade, sell, provide knowledge and generally have fun no matter if your a hobbyist or a store owner.

They lost some color on the trip home and the dip (bayer) but I think they will all recover and color up nicely.

More info in my build thread

It looks like all my frags from the swap are doing well other than the Tyree Ultimate stag I got from Renton777 and the Rainbow milli I got from Frost - hopefully they will recover. George - I also dipped with Bayer (12 oz for 15 min in about 2 gallons of tank water in a 5 gallon bucket) - then hand lift and shake and move to rinse #1 for 15 minutes with small pump in 2.5 gal tank water in a 5 gallon bucket , then final rinse for an additional 15 minutes in a different 2.5 gal tank water in a 5 gallon with a different pump. The only hassle is keeping the temps correct. What regiment do the rest of you use?

I am interested in hearing about this as well.

One thing I have thought of before but haven't tested yet is to use three smallish 2-quart containers in a bath of heated water. So maybe like a 20-30 gallon tank or rubbermaid container with a really beefy heater in it, and the three smaller containers (one with bayer, and two rinses) all in the heated water. This way you aren't stuck trying to individually control the three different temperatures.

Next time I know I am buying/receiving corals I plan on setting this up a few hours beforehand and seeing how it works.
