hi,

I've been feeling fighting cyano and I think it might be my lighting schedule.

I have 4 channels with the following I think;

12,000 whites
6,500 white
465nm blue
450 & 410 blues

Could to much 6,500 whites be to much encouraging cyano growth? I'm not really sure the best percentages of each channel to use.

Ol salty said it.. yup it's not lighting. Sure they do like to have light for photosynthesis but I can grow them nicely without any light. Well normal room lighting.
It's about what cyanobacteria you have is how you combat them :)

yea, prob some uglies. Cyano lives on nothing sometimes. I just try to keep a clean tank decent flow. I have always used bacteria in a bottle too. if it hangs on you can use peroxide dosing to kill it and remove the exess DOCs it snacks on, or chemiclean to get a clean start.

Twillard,

Here's some photos I took from a sample with peroxide, it was not green before I added the h2o2 but black looking, that stuff at the bottom was not there (the sand was but not the web formation). I think the water does a have a slight pinkish tint and maybe around the floating bits there's a tad of pink, so would this indicate cyano and not spirulina?
