Moved fish into new setup January 3rd, today noticed a white lesion on my YWG.
He is acting fine and eating like a pig. I have seen him bowing up to the clownfish since moving over and think he may have injured himself diving into his cave..

I feel like it could heal on its own so plan to watch it before doing anything, but figured I'd get some opinions on that.

Thanks

That does look sorta bad. At the very least, he might benefit from an acriflavine bath (an antiseptic) to ward off infection. If he's not too hard to catch.

It definitely doesn't look good. I would do something like the bath Humble mentioned QT with antibiotics if he were mine.

Thanks for the replies. Think my lfs has ruby reef rally, would an in tank treatment suffice? It claims reef safe and anyway the Only coral in the tank is a fungia plate that could be removed easily..
I would have to remove all the rocks to get him which wouldnt be too bad since it's just setup and I haven't moved the corals over yet.. Just don't think it's bothering him enough to stress with a move.
He is still out guarding his shrimp, pursuing food vigorously, really quite normal
the lesion does not appear raised, more like a scrape of his skin but it looks fuzzy in the pic cause I had to zoom in on him from a few feet away. Otherwise he shoos the shrimp and himself back into their burrow hiding the wound

You could try it in tank. I've never used it in an actual display tank. The closest I've gotten is using it in a commercial fish-only system.

It's basically a fish only right now, 2 clowns, YWG and pistol shrimp, couple hermit crabs and a tiger conch. And the fungia.

Think I'll see about picking up the rally at lunch and start it Tuesday when I'll be home most the day to observe everything. Unless he looks like crap, then I'll be pulling rock and getting him out. He's had a small lesion like this about a couple years ago on his abdomen, it healed ok on it's own.
Looking back that was shortly after he was moved into a new tank then as well

Could be that's all it is. It just looks bad right now. Rally works better as a dip, so that's the best way to do it. If you do it in the tank though, document and post the results here so every body can learn from it.

I personally wouldn't use Rally in a DT, even one without corals/inverts. Acriflavine turns the water an orange-brownish color, and I would worry about that staining the tank/rock.

After reading up on it more, I'm not going to dose the tank with it. Mostly because I don't want to expose all my healthy livestock to formalin. I didn't realize that rally also contained formalin. So at this point I think I'm going to watch and wait, he's out escorting his shrimp already today.
Plan to add selcon to his food, and maybe bump up feeding frequency while it's healing.
I need to go check the expiration date but I have some kanaplex and metroplex on hand, and many lfs in the area to find whatever I may need, if he needs pulled from the display.

FWIW; the amount of formalin Rally contains is miniscule. It's primarily used as an activator.

Yeah, I realize that but still don't want it in the display. It's nasty stuff.
If I end up pulling him into qt, would you just do the acriflavine or go ahead with antibiotics as Mel suggested? If antibiotics which ones?

I would use Kanaplex because kanamycin is more readily absorbable by a fish's skin. You can always add Furan-2 to this in a few days if the fish is not showing signs of improvement.

I have been continuing to monitor, and it appears to be healing on its own. Lesion is noticeably smaller today, with the normal yellow pigment returning

Cause of problem? [emoji16] he's still angry at clownfish, who actually pay no attention to him whatsoever..

Well, I don't think the injury is from a direct altercation with the clownfish but more from running away from it...
The YWG will bow up, swimming a couple inches toward the clown. Then dart back into his burrow really fast, I think he scraped himself diving into his hole.

Very possible. It certainly does look to be improving.
