TODAY IS DEMO DAY!!
(this will take a few posts since I'm doing this right now and only posting during breaks)

Step One: Finish the stand and get it painted/sealed.

We added some support on the bottom there so we can put plywood down on the bottom and on the top.

We went ahead and notched the 2x4's so the plumbing would fit, then cut and screwed down the plywood "decking"

We painted part of it, but once that is dry we will bring the whole thing back inside so we can put the tank and foam board on it and mark the walls where we will cut. The stand will go back outside for the rest of the paint and while that dries we will start cutting out the wall. This particular part wasn't very well thought out on our part, but we are kinda learning as we go. ;)

OK!! We are all done for the night. Luckily my husband is off next saturday as well (totally rare for that to happen) so he's going to finish up with the big stuff - like cutting out the hole on the other side of the wall and working on electrical.

We got the wall opened up. You can see the wire running through the wall there. Richard got that moved up and over the hole pretty quick.

Then we got to work removing the studs. We had some trouble... mainly with getting out that footboard there. We even managed to to all this with minimal damage to the other side of the sheet rock! There are a few small places, but those are easily fixed and painted over.

Before we go to bed tonight we will bring the stand inside and fit it in there. It's supposed to rain at some point so it has to happen. Hopefully it fits right in and we have no problems. Of course I'll post a picture of that too!

I have the same tank and did a dual herbie drain utilizing all holes in both overflows, all returns are from my custom manifold, tank is dead silent and tons of flow. One of the advantages of a fish room and I highly recommend it.
Following build, great start.
Thanks for following! Your plumbing looks great there... thanks for the idea! I'm still fluid in these areas so it gives me something else to think about. Did you drill the tank for your returns or are they looped up and over? Can I see a picture of that part?

Congrats on the upgrade merideth!! Great progress so far. Best of luck moving forward!

Thanks! I'm going to need it! I just dropped the stand on my toe. lol

Speaking of dropping the stand on my toe.... We were moving it in it's place when that happened. Hurt like the dickens! It fits, but only just. We made our hole just a little too exact so we will be widening that next weekend along with opening the other side of the wall, a little framing and some trim to make it all look pretty, and electrical! This tank will be getting it's own circuit in the breaker box, possibly two to spread the load. Oh and we still need to drill holes in the stand for the plumbing. That's on the list too.

Yeaahhh... I tried to be safe... I just forgot not to wear my flipflops. :D

And that little voice in your head never once said "hmm.. maybe I should put shoes on for this?" ;)

If it didn't, you need to have a talk with yourself about that! :p
