See? I told him that same thing and he scoffed at it. He says it's a mess, but it will have to do. I told him he should have seen the job I did on my current sump. It's pretty messy and with black silicone lol.

LOL! as long is it does the job that's all that matters. Oh and it helps if it's hidden haha

Looking really good! I am not sure how you are planning the in wall setup, but take it from me who had one in wall, have some sort of an access door/panel above the tank in the front. That way you can actually see what you're doing when moving things around and pruning. Certainly not necessary, but I reaaaallllyyy wish I had done it.

That's a great tip! Very good point. I'll mention it to my husband today while we are working and see if we can come up with something that wont ruin the "framed picture" look we want in the living room. Now you've gotten me thinking....

If you can come up with an elegant solution I would highly recommend it. No front access was the one thing I would have changed on my 120 in wall. As things got big and needed to be maintained/fragged it was really hard to try and do it from behind the tank. BUT you can also add a door down the road if you find it necessary.

I already scraped my hand right at the start. Lol. Dont say it, I know, gloves would have been smart. But my toes were safe inside my tennis shoes!

We framed out the inside of the wall with 2x6's on the sides to help block splashing from getting on the wall on each side. Looks pretty good. I didnt want it on the top so it wouldnt block light to the front of the tank.

The hole is getting cut! For the record i did all the cutting except the top part because im too short to do it well.

Yay! Its a hole! From the living room.

From the fish room.

We calked the corners everywhere we could to seal it up nice a tight.

With a little nieghborly help the tank is in its place and nice and level.

That's a lot of progress, looking good already and it's not even close to finished. You and your hubby are doing a great job!

Thanks! We were so tired after all that, we didn't try and do the trim on the outside. We are hoping to get that done tomorrow morning instead. After that is done and Richard finishes up wiring in the dedicated circuit and plugs (mostly complete) then the rest is up to me. I'm hoping it will get going really fast after that.

Looking great!

And I will give you a pass on not wearing gloves. ;)
However, when doing demo work or really any time working with power tools you should have safety glasses on! I don't see any in the pictures! o_O

I know.. I'm a bit overboard when it comes to safety. I guess it comes from working at a steel mill. I've gotten to the point where safety glasses are like seat belts. It just feels wrong to work with tools and not have a pair on.

Well shoot. We have some somewhere, but I wouldn't even know where to start looking for them. lol If only you could see my garage and you'd go "Oh holy potatoes, I give up" Thanks for the complements though!
