Hello world!

I'm a 11 month old reefer and booooooy do I have a nasty reef aquarium habit already!

I was going to join this forum to post a build thread on my currently in-progress 65 craigslist-tank build, but an 8 gallon nano cube or refractometemer is a much better reason ;)

Would be great to have a more efficient nano. Need to change out some sand to prevent OTS.

Hello, I joined this wonderful site to get back into the beautiful reef hobby ! As a two year old, I was running through the kitchen (which mama always said not to) lol, and fell head first onto the corner of the refrigerator, cracking my skull. I was in a coma for 4 days and have brain damage. It affects my short & long term memory, but the worse is I have a bad headache, to migraine and much worse, where I drink a dose of morphine into water, coffee etc. I'm 51 and had to give up working in my 20's. I also broke my neck and have three vertebrae fused, which also brings pain. . I'm diabetic, had 3 recent consecutive winter years of pneumonia which depleted 1/4 of my lung capacity, then I had a root canal on a tooth which became infected, it traveled to my bladder, to my kidneys, liver, then entered my bloodstream. It's called "septic blood" which means my entire body became infected. At the time, the specialist doctor said I would have only had three days to live if I hadn't gone to the hospital. I was there for 4 days and wasn't getting much better, so they flew me to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota where they hooked me up to a kind of dialysis machine to clean my blood, organs and tissues. I spent 16 days in the ICU and another 21 in a private room. Now that I'm back to good health, I want to get back into my favorite hobby of reef keeping and also to return to our small towns school with teaching our young to respect our reefs around the world. We had a hermit crab named, "Hermie" that I would bring with me and place him on a table to let the children watch him. I also brought my camcorder movies of the 75 gallon reef that I built into the living room wall above the TV, with access to a third bedroom which was our fish room. I made my hood lighting system and added a pulley system so I could raise it to get in the tank easier and still have great lighting (which started out with 4 VHO's then added a 250w halide for the stony corals), plumbing, dosers, etc. that I made myself, and would mix my own calcium chloride and other chemicals. Anyway, I actually got depressed having to give up all 4 tanks, but I couldn't let all the corals die due to slowing down on the maintenance, and now I want to get back into it slowly, so this set-up would be,..... great. I'm not writing this for people to feel sorry for me, as there's many,....people that have life a lot worse than me. It's just that being home most of the time I need a hobby that inspirer's me and makes me happy, and other than my beautiful wife, there's nothing more beautiful than the coral reefs and reef fish ! Thank you, Kevin

Between moving, downsizing, and starting a new tank, I could use any help I can get! I'm in!

Thanks for the opportunity

I moved from NY to MD to be my 93 year old mom's nurse/caretaker, leaving behind 2 reef tanks I had to sell. Mom doesn't want a big tank here in our house (where I grew up), so a nano tank would fit in nicely (and maybe even convince her that a larger reef tank would also be nice).
