overflow noise

I've asked a few in our local club but I haven't gotten any answers. So, I'll ask it here...

I have a hob overflow (utube style). How in the world do you get rid of that awful gurgling sound???? It's driving me nuts.

When I was using a HOB overflow I made one of these stand pipes. Works very well and very low cost. Check the link...

those standpipes are the bomb. I have them in my hob overflow and in my reefready tank's overflow.

They really knock the noise out. You may have to play with the holes in the end cap to get it right, so don't fear if you still hear some noise coming from them after installation.
