I was sold this as a purple monster. If it is isn't doesn't bother me. Just liked it. 20170422_171047.jpg

Mine came from Copps a long time ago. I grew it into a big colony, fragged it many times. Then crashed my tank. Got a frag back from a friend that had purchased a frag of my original colony. So this is really a granddaughter of my mother colony.

I think the white polyps is what made the PM.

Would a maricultured PM count in this thread? I picked up a brown blob...thats slowly turning into an amazing PM with the rediculous white polyps

I separately purchased two brown, maroonish blobs [I mean "frags"] about a year ago from an LFS. I paid $10.00 each time. Off the discount rack that I think of as the surprise rack because you never know what they will turn into.
They sat for a long time slowly encrusting. Finally getting some vertical branching I start to realize that they are more than likely the same coral. Now the white polyps are showing and the brown turd color has become purple.
I think that they are both PM and I am considering myself lucky.
Here is one that is up front and easy to photo with my sorry phone cam.

Gorgeous!!! I need to get this. I've tried it twice, once long ago and once more recently, both times I lost it after growing it out for quite a while. Sensitive little bugger. That's how you can tell its OG, lol

I don't think that's the coral, definitely different growth structure. If you got a pm from the ten dollar section from a local fish store you would be lucky that's for sure. Does have great purple on the branches though and I bet it takes off once it's a bit bigger.

Got my OG Purple Monster from Unique Corals. Have had a few very small tissue loss events and a tissue bubbling event that mysteriously came and went on it's own. Other than that it's slooooowly encrusting. lol

What nuterient parameters do you guys keep your PM at ? I recently got mine - OG Tyree PM but wanted to know if it colors up only at very low nutrients.
I generally run fairly high nutrient by today's standard of nitrates 10 and phosphates at 0.03 - 0.10 with high PAR from radium halides and high flow.
Also, how long did it take for the PM to start coloring up. Mine is encrusting a little in a month or so but still no color.

Regards,
Abhishek
