Very close @austinl, it is used in place of sand. More surface area for bacteria rather then bare bottom. Another plus is if corals grow on it, I can frag them later... or not. Its a pain to remove the tile once rocks and racks are on top of it.

I thought i was close :)

Looks similiar to that eco tile BRS sells for the same purpose but i image the tile is much cheaper.

Never knew they had tile for sale on BRS. I've always used Traventine tile from HD. People say not to use honed but I've had no problems. Been doing it for years now with good results.

Working in the marine industry has taught me a lot about plumbing, with that in mind I've done a few things and improved a lot when it comes to fittings and preventing leaks.

Pipe dope, teflon tape, and then dope again near the top. This creates a sandwich on the teflon while letting the teflon do its work.

Lots of plumbing, this will be fun when it comes to installing!

Manifolds for each tank, you'll see why I had to do what I did later on.

More "staging" of the job.

Thanks guys!

More mocking up of stuff for the plumbing:

Running inline ball valves going to the returns on the tanks. Hose clamps will be used to secure them as well.

Lots of plumbing parts for the drain system. Unions all over and gate valves on the full siphon. All tanks are running bean animal method for drains, silence is golden after all.

So things got rolling, its been a while since I've updated but had so much going on.

Emptying the first tank:

What makes things so easy is that I was about to move most of it into my holding tanks.
