I've never kept a scorp before, but I'm always interested in other than usual suspects. I saw this guy at an lfs today listed as a red scorpion. No one at this store ever knows a scientific name or much info on anything that's a bit unusual.

Could someone please give a complete id. Share any experience with this one. Are they active, sedentary. How big do they get and what type of set up do they need. He didn't move while I was in the store, but he was very alert. Thanks

Scorpeana brasiliensis

Awesome fish! They don't move much and are ambush predators. They will eat anything they can fit in their mouths, and their mouths are huge! Fairly easy to convert to frozen in my experience. They will get to around the 6" range.

Mine was pretty front and center of the tank. Didn't hide much
