My last large tank was a 180 gallon, and I ran it with a Sump, Protein Skimmer, Chiller, UV Sterilizer, Heater, Metal Halides, and just about every other piece of equipment you can think of.
BUT... more and more, I'm seeing Reefers who are successfully running small and large reef aquariums "without a Sump", or some of the other traditional equipment that we who have been in the hobby for a while have always used.
SO... if you do not use a Sump in your reef aquarium, please share your tank with us - especially if you have a tank that is 40 gallons or above.
Please specify:
  1. Picture of Tank
  2. Tank Size
  3. Corals -or - Fish Only
  4. Filtration Method / Equipment
  5. Lighting type
  6. Any extra equipment you use
  7. Any chemical additives/dosing you use
  8. Water change frequency & how much

I don't have a current picture of my tank available right now but I do want to follow this post.
I have a 75 gallon tank that I am running with a Fluval canister filter. I keep carbon and floss in the canister.
I also run a UV filter in the tank (place in back corner), 2 powerheads, and a heater.
Lighting is a Current USA Orbit LED light - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GFTSV24/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I do water changes every three to four weeks (10G-15G) depending on my schedule.

Thanks bud! Still a work in progress! I was beating myself up when I just began thinking I NEED a sump. Never been more wrong lol. Truth be told I can do without a skimmer too but I'm just testing this out. Honestly, I think my corals were doing better without the skimmer :/

Depends what type of corals you have. LPS corals require more nutrients so your skimmer could be removing too much nutrients. Some people only run their skimmers part of the day. I just set mine for a drier skim and dose reef roids and reef energy a and b

Tank Size : 15 gallons
Mixed Reef
Filtration : HOB that runs Chemipure with filter floss
Lighting: Black Box LEDS
Extra Equipment: Nothing special, just a heater, HOB, 2 hydor powerheads (240gph &180gph) and lights
Water Changes: 10% weekly

Tank is about 14 months old, went really slow with this set up to ensure stability, now that things have remained constant for a few months I'll be adding a yellow clown goby and some more corals over the next few weeks.

How long did it take to grow out the coralline algae in your tank ? Is there anything special you do to keep your water parameters and eco system just right in your tank (other than what you mentioned above) ?
