i recently purchased a used skimmer and it does not have the air silencer on it . Should I just order the replacement or just a hose of the venturie? Any disadvantage

I have the 163 dc the hose doesnt connect to a silencer it has a screw on the top to adjust air flow contact Bulk Reef Supply they sale and warranty them

Yes that is the part I am talking about does it need to be there. I just ordered it anyway

Here is a picture you see it has an air adjustment screw in order to get a wet or dry skim you will have to be able to adjust air flow as well as the gate

The air hose hooks to the bottom i have a CO2 scrubber on mine is why you see a hose on the top
