This was last weeks fundraiser flyer and here's tomorrow's. Both going home with almost 500 kids. Almost half way and we haven't even started the bake sales yet.

Cloram x and pH buffer dosing seems to be paying off. As you can see water is very green and I add Rotifers everyday but no ammonia. Now we have to see if chemical interventions cause long term damage to fry.

Thanks for teaching me all about the rotifiers. Very interesting I had no idea they were such delicate creatures. I also learned I really need to pick up a microscope. I wish you guys the best of luck with these babies. If you ever learn why you have to buffer please tell me because i have the same problem.

Are you close enough to taste it? If you live in the Champaign Urbana area please do stop by our project some day after school. Open invitation to all local reefers to come by!

On a sad note, here's a picture I took today of Mrs Wilsons tank. All of the coral and anemones gone and we still have to do daily maintenance to keep water perimeters stable.

Rough and dirty green star polyp transplant in process to repopulate Mrs Wilson's tank.

Hey Reef 2 Reef

Long time no post on my tread. I've been super busy with moving (finally bought a house), non aquarium related school stuff and our fundraiser.

This said, I wanna post some pictures to keep you all updated.

Here's our 120 gallon tank downstairs.

I got our third batch of clownfish to survive for almost a month before I killed them all adding too much buffer. The kids were pretty upset.

But fortunately our fish spawn like clockwork and we had over a hundred hatch out last Wednesday.

My friends Eric and Chad at Reef Nutrition just donated over 100lbs of back issues of Coral and Tropical Fish Magazine. Enough reading matter and dream fodder for years. Thanks guys!

Wanted to show off this huge leather coral from the tank by the office.

Look at the difference between these two varieties of bubble tip coral.

First one has never split in the two years I've had it. Second colony splits continually but has muted colors. Weird.

The leather coral is a treat for the eyes! It's extraordinarily beautiful and shows that it's very well taken care of. My favorite!

Tropic Marin has been a long time supporter of our project and has been an amazing company to work with. Lou Ekus (the US rep) has forgotten more about salt water chemistry than I've ever known and has been an important mentor (and life line) since I began this hobby. I credit much of my success to his help and the quality of Tropic Marin salt. My first piece of advice to all newbies is that there is no substitution for frequent water changes with quality salt.

Friday Lou and Tropic Marin helped secure the long term viability of our project by donating enough salt to get us through the summer and into the fall.

I knew my kids were reef aquarium enthusiasts they got excited about something most people only thing about when they season their food. The salt delivery became a school event with most teachers and students coming out of their classrooms to check out what was going on.

The truck drive was super nice and help us unload. Moving the salt through the school was another challenge altogether but we solved it with team work and with little disruption and no injuries.

Ongoing funding my project is a constant stress for me and it did my heart good knowing that I have friends willing to donate this vital resource. I urge you to purchase Tropic Marin products, not only because they make the best salt available, but also because they give back to the next generation of reef keepers.
