Released 3 fish babies from our acclimation box into the reef this afternoon.
They are:
  • Oxymonacanthus longirostris (Orange Spotted filefish - male) He was moved from our 30g nano - been with us for 1.5 years.
  • Pseudojuloides cerasinus (Small Tail pencil wrasse - female)
  • Cirrhilabrus johnsoni (Johnson's fairy wrasse - male)
We will post some pics once they have settled in.

Does the filefish eat your sps polyps?
Absolutely! for any polyp that ventures out during the day. :D Our Acropora corals don't have much polyp extension during the day anyway, thanks to our Regal angelfish and we're okay with that.

Our Orange Spotted filefish eats a variety of meaty foods as well as algae and should adjust well to the big reef.

O. longirostris:

P. diacanthus:

Not 100% sure, but so far looks like A. austera (Named "Freaky Tiki" by Tiki Corals LFS). Love the colors.

This pic was taken while in the acclimation box. Not a great pic, but interesting to see his camouflage colors.

A few more pics...

Genicanthus semifasciatus male

Cirrhilabrus rhomboidalis male (1 of 2)

Naso elegans

This is not a great pic, but shows what a challenge it is in trying to get good shots of fish or coral in our tank. All of our fish babies are notorious photo bombers, LOL!

Every time I look at your tank I am blown away. Also your photos are top notch! Are you doing anything like aminos or just feeding heavy?

Thanks so much for the compliments - we truly are appreciative! We have to feed heavy with the large number of fish we keep and, so far, have not found it necessary to dose aminos. :)

Hey Terry is there any way you could shoot a little video of you feeding your fish. Like the exact amount you would normally feed?

+1 That would be helpful for me as well given the similarities in our systems and stocking. Thanks.

Yes, we can do that... :D

Wow. Beautiful. Can you tell me about your plumbing? Why did you decide to have the returns come from the bottom? It would make me nervous to put holes in the bottom of the tank since plumbing can leak. If this has already been covered somewhere in your thread just tell me and i will try to find it.

Also just curious. You mentioned you had two catastrophic failures before. What was the extent of the damage to your home? Did insurance cover it? I can't even imagine how much damage 300 gallons of salt water can do to a home.... twice none the less. How do you dry your home from that?

We need to update our plumbing diagram and post it in the thread. The bottom drilled holes in the tank are for our closed loop. The returns are located high on the back wall which you can see in the pic below (far left and far right):

As for the two failures, the first happened in September of 2010 and was a catastrophic, bottom seal rupture on a less than 6 month old tank and caused quite a bit of damage to our home. The second, was a pinhole leak (bubble in rear corner seam) on the custom built replacement tank built by the vendor. Thankfully, it was caught early and caused no damage. Both are well-documented in this thread.
