I just lost a fish to what I believe to be a bacterial infection in his gills. I am now trying to figure out what the best medications are to have on hand at all times to help prevent this sort of thing in the future. I looked through the disease section sticky but it has many and I am curious what most people keep on hand and what they use on their "New arrivals (coral and fish)".

Thanks!

Kanaplex, furan 2, cupramine, prazi pro, formalin, methelyn blue, ibuprofen, and Prozac.

Prozac and ibuprofen will be needed for the headaches and stress to handle this hobby, but should never go in the tank.

Just my .02

All of those are worth their weight in gold.

Also someone on [HASHTAG]#reefsquad[/HASHTAG] could probably advise you on coral meds.

I will say prazi pro is reef safe. Used it on my reefs many times. Despite internet reading no worms or feather dusters were even harmed at 2x dose.

All fish should be treated with prazi, especially wrasse. Kills internal parasites and fluke-type parasites.

I agree with 3ford. Those are all good items to keep at least a little bit of on hand. Also though not medications I like to have brightell vitamarine c, selcon and a garlic additive on hand as well for adding to food for sick fish while medicating. As far as things for coral I like to keep some revive or other dip, furan-2, Melafix, and Lugols on hand for corals. Also chemiclean for zoas.

For bacterial infections nitrofurazone works well. Furan 2 is ok I've had better success with the pure stuff :p

Awesome information. Thanks everyone. Here is what I have in my list of items to Buy:
- Seachem ParaGuard 250ml ( used for ich and other bacterial infections)
- Brightwell 1oz. Garlic Power Supplement (Drop on fish food to help while in quarantine or if they look distressed?)
- Furan 2 (Treats bacterial infections) Not sure how this one is different from ParaGuard
- PraziPro 16oz - (Treat bacterial and protozoan diseases or internal diseases and should be used to treat all new additions to the tank)

Anything else I should add/change to my order before running with it? I looked at the methelyn blue and it seems like it doubles for what Furan 2 does. Please correct me if I am incorrect here.

Thanks!

Ignore the descriptions, most fish drugs are used for different things than the bottle describes. Furan 2 treats different strains.
