So this algae grows like a leaf BUT it grows flat against the glass, rocks, frag racks, frag plugs. It will grow over at least zoas. I can usually peel it off. I do not have a picture of it in the tank. But I have a piece that I pulled off - it’s dried out. I don’t think my tangs eat it. Not sure if anything does. It’s greenish brown. So think leaf but growth is in a mat.

Like that but hydrated. It grows like a sheet…it’s the best way to describe it. I think there is some still on my back wall. I’ll do my best to get a photo when I get home.

Any chance you can get some microscope pics of it? Some macroalgae species (like the coldwater Turkish Washcloth, for one example), some sponges, and some cyanobacterial mats could potentially look like this, so close up pics of the structure would help.

If not, I would guess either a sponge or a macro; if it has holes in it while it's in the water, I'd say sponge (I can tell it's somewhat bumpy, but I can't tell if it has any holes); if no holes, I'd guess macro.

Yes I can pull out my microscope tomorrow and grab some photos. thank you!

It doesn’t have holes. Grows in thin sheet over things the stuff on my overflow looks weird because it grew on top of my Coraline algae.

I FOUND IT
I would guess lobophora, most pictures of it are in the ocean plating on rocks, but I think it could look like this growing on the back of the tank.
My best guess

Well I’m glad I could bring something unusual to the table….

That second set of pictures I have no clue what it is or how to make it go away. So far the majority is on one rock…..
