Beating the summer heat: How are you keeping your tank cool?

I don't know about everyone else, but this has been one hot year for us. With hot temperatures, comes a hotter house. Which means, our tank could be heating up as well. I am wondering how are you keeping your tank cool through this hot summer! Share your best tips and advice with us!

Air conditioning and a fan over the tank. I also open the hood when it is in the low 80's. I haven't iced the sump this year, just keeping the house under 80 degrees has helped.

I have a chiller in the basement, only run if fan cant keep temp down.
If chiller is idle, we run feed pump for 5 minutes every 6 hours, so water does nit stagnate in chiller.

Central a/c and fans when necessary. I live in deep south Texas so our a/c's run basically 24/7. Electricity if fairly inexpensive down here, thankfully.

I am in north Texas, so I have central AC, plus portable backup units.

I do need to run fans durning the day, but only because of the metal halides in the lighting mix.

We keep our house at 66-67. Only reason why is our upstairs gets so hot during the summer months.

My house is typically 78-84F sadly even with a new ac unit, new roof, and new windows. Nothing works as well, efficient, and quiet as a typical desk fan. I have this in between radion RMS mounts so I don’t have to worry about mounting it and have it going across the tank it’s running at its lowest setting and have the Innovative Marine Helios set to 78F. I bought an InkBird Temp Controller but haven’t set it up yet because this method is working great!

Big oak trees help with our upstairs temp. But yes I know the pain.

I just lowered the tank heater to 74 degrees and house AC to 72. the pumps are what’s raising the temp in summer.

What fans are you using?

I used to have my tank plumbed through the floor and into the garage where I had a chiller. After I switched to LEDs and DC pumps Luckily my tank stays below 80. I also live in the PNW so it doesn't stay hot for extended periods of time.

I use the GHL Breeze 4 fan unit on my tank. Works great at keeping the tank temperature stable.

Works well as long as relative humidity is low, ie dew point 70 or lower. Above that, evaporative cooling is not very effective.
Sydney must be dry.
