I have taken over the task of maintaining my dads reef tank because of his health condition. A few months ago we had to take a part the bio pellet reactor due to a leaking issue. The past few weeks we have noticed a blob growing in the reactor. The tank is running good no changes. I’m not as good as my dad of doing weekly water changes. I try and do weekly but there has been times it goes 2-3 weeks with out any water changes. But everything still looks good. This version of the tank with the bio pellet reactor has been running for 4 years. The tank has been around for much longer. The blue and yellow tang are 18 and the clown fish are around 12 the other fish are 1 month old. Just wondering what might be happening and what should we do?

Here is the water parameters:
Salinity-1.025
Ca-380
Mag-1050
KH-8
PO-0
NO-0
PH-7.68
Temp-78-80

Looks like a collection of bacterial mulm. I don't believe it's harmful but it happened in the past when running biopellets. I just removed the excess and eventually things went back to normal.

Hi Nick

I would also just remove it as well as it looks like it’s just built up.

The tank looks great by the way especially the green star polyp which is one of my personal favourites, although it spreads as you realise

It looks like your doing an excellent job of maintaining the system and keeping it clean

I hope your dads health improves and welcome to R2R as well, it’s great to have you with us!
