Hello...

Can anyone please confirm that this is Bryopsis? Hopefully this picture is good enough... I have a few patches around my tank and I'm pretty sure I've ID'd it - but I've been wrong many times in my life :)

Thanks,

Um yep thats bryopsis, sorry. Its not as bad as its made out to be I have rid tanks of it with ease. I would rather deal with bryopsis than dinoflagellates any day. Manual removal is your best bet. If possible remove the effected rock from the tank, pull off all you can, scrub the rest off with a tooth brush, soak/ squirt the area with hydrogen peroxide, rinse in clean tank water and your done. Repeat as needed if it comes back or to other effected rock. Make sure your clean up crew to up to PAR as well.

Thank you both for the confirmation...

Unfortunately, rock removal is not an option - although there's only a few patches, it is scattered on about a half dozen rocks. I've pulled some out that was easy to reach but it is really anchored to the rock! I've read some (mostly) positive posts on Reef Flux (Fluconazole) and have also seen a few on raising mag levels. I guess I'll read some more and land on an approach.

I appreciate your help.

Yeah, with some rock you can’t get it all and it grows back, maybe help spread in the process
It thought to be the small amounts of metals in cheaper mag supplements, like Kent, that kill the bryopsis.
Have used it on a few tanks with no ill effect to coral
