Had an ich outbreak tank been fallow about 3 weeks, can i add snails to my tank now? What difference will it make if i do it now or after 76 days? Theres still going to be the same risk or not? Thanks

You can add CUC but then have to wait 76 days I'm pretty sure.

You can add a clean up crew but then wait 76 days to add fish. That will ensure whatever is on the snails and hermits when released will die off instead of attaching to a host and reproduce.

You can add CUC and there is no wait period. Additionally, I would wait as the fish help provide the nutrients which promote food source for CUC such as organics and algae.

yes - but the day you add them would be the first day of the fallow period. You could just add them - but as you suggested - the risk of an issue would be higher

If you’re not quarantining inverts, then it technically doesn’t make a difference when they are added. That said, since you are actively fallowing right now, you might as well do it right and start the clock once they go in.

If you are trying to QT your CUC, you would need to restart the fallow period on the day you added them. If you do not want to QT your CUC you can add them any time. If you add them any time - like after or during your fallow period there is a (slight) risk of a disease being present. (Which I believe was your question?)

Not to confuse you but a lot of new information is saying 6 weeks at 80.6 or above for fallow with 45 being the sweet spot. I have ran it for my QT process. Its all about the risk your willing to take some follow the QT older studies and some follow the new one. Otherwise the reset day as mention above is correct.

Here's a good article to read

It depends on the source of your CUC. If they come from dedicated invertebrate systems that don't hold fish, you're pretty safe in adding them during your fallow period. However, some LFS house fish (even sick ones) in their CUC tanks. In those cases, it would extend your fallow period from day 1 to be safe.

I dont see a reason for a clock/time period which would apply to fish

This is true - at higher temps, it's possible to shorten the QT time. I tend to say 80 days because it's not going to hurt, and many people have other organisms that do not do well at the higher temperature. It also gets confusing when recommending 'times' - as it involves more than just time - but also - contents, temp, water conditions, etc.

Additionally, some CUC are collected directly from the ocean in large amounts - and then just sold relatively quickly. If a CUC has been in a tank for a period - it's a moot point. (as @Jay Hemdal said a fish-less tank)
