What size of CO2 scrubber are you using?

I have a Waterbox 100.3 (~100g) system with a Reef Octopus eSsence S-130 protein skimmer that I’m thinking about adding a scrubber to to battle pH issues caused by excess carbon dioxide in our apartment.

I’ve been thinking about getting the jumbo model that BRS sells, but I may get the smaller model for now to see if it makes a difference. I realize that the difference, other than price, will be the frequency of media replacement due to the large size difference between the models.

With that said, I’d love to know what size your scrubber is, how large your skimmer and system are, and how often you have to replace the media.

Thank you so much!

Regardless of what size you go with I recommend drilling the lid of your skimmer and running the input hose of the scrubber into it. This will recirculate the low CO2 air and the media will last longer. You also won’t have to worry about adding water to the bottom of the scrubber as the air will be extremely humid. My media in the normal reactor lasts 2-3 weeks on my 60+ gallon system

I have the normal size one on a 140g tank. I might be wrong but my guess is the only advantage of the big one would be longer times between when you need to refill the media. It’s made a tremendous difference in my pH.

70G total volume, I use the regular one from BRS, but I have it outside with a tube from it to my skimmer air intake. pH averages at 8.3 and I change the media in it monthly.
