Can anyone please recommend a stand builder? I'm planning a custom built 500g 10ft long reef. I'm located in NJ if that makes a difference. Thanks.

Go steel and find a local welder. I had a steel stand built for my 750g. We built it onsite. I wish it had been built off site to be powdercoated - But it was too big and heavy to move into the house.

So we built it on the back patio and put a couple of coats of bedliner on it.

Materials - Delivered - Were $660. Labor was $500

I know Glasscages makes aquarium stands....standard and custom. Joe is the guy you want to talk to. They are located in TN.

I'd also suggest you post on the local club website....njreefers.org. I know one member, @Hockeynut , was a custom cabinet maker and made a number of stands for club members....top notch builder. The issue is that I think he might have moved, but if he's still around, he lived in Jackson.

Did you put a facade over it afterwards?

Yeah honestly...

I had two metal stands built for my last two tanks (large frag and display tanks) by two different welders. Both came out great.

It's not really rocket science for a welder to put together.

Just keep in mind that if you are worried about warranty on your tank, most tank manufacturers void their warranties if they don't make the stand, so it can make sense to get the tank and stand at the same place. I'm sure welders know their trade, but there also might be some engineering considerations on a steel tank stand (especially one that size) that a tank manufacturer knows, and a welder might not. I got my 400g steel stand and tanks at AGE (Texas) - and the stand was killer, white powder coated, leveling legs, etc.
