I’ve cycled one reef tank so far and i started it with dry rock and live sand.
Cycling tanks with dry rock has taken significantly longer than cycling a tank with live rock.
I’m setting up a new tank for college. It’s an 18 gallon AIO from cobalt aquatics.
planning for a deeper sand bed than what i’ve had before.

Also planning on dosing live and dormant bacteria if i use all dry material. I also have a few ounces of sand from the Gulf of Mexico. Would that harbor any beneficial bacteria for the dry sand and rock?

I was planning on using live sand like usual but i have dry sand on-hand. Would dry sand and dry rock be okay when cycling a new tank?? I’ve got 2 months to cycle it before i move out.
I also have a second hand “osmolator” i have no idea how to use but would like to figure it out.

I cycle every new setup with Carib Sea dry rock and sand, a bottle of bacteria, saltwater, heat and flow.
1 wait one week and in go the fish two fish.
Me, I want to know who is going into our systems.
