I made this hob refugium made from a small hob filter and a 6 inch led. I'm gonna put a little bit of rock ruble in the bottom and add some cheato. It's going on a jmj 28g tank, you think it will work good enough to make a difference?

Looks nice! Not sure how much growth you'll get out of the light but it's worth a shot. If it doesn't work you could always switch it up and go with some CREE, etc. LEDs.

I predict you will find it works much better than you expect.

But then my predictions are not all that reliable and worth at most

.02

ps nice work and creative thinking. I have heard similar items on existing tanks really reduced nitrates.

Awsome!
Ive made a couple. I would avoid the rubble. Youll need to clean the filter from time to time because it will collect detritus. I have an aquaclear refugium on my 30 cube currently and I added a sponge to the intake tube.

I had the filter already laying around and got the led in the clearance isle at walmart for 4 bucks so I only have 4 dollars into it so it's worth a shot...just gotta find some cheato now

Have you noticed nutrient reduction, and are you getting cheato growth, and are you still using the same light? Great little build, man!

Bump! I know this is a old thread but have a similar build with a 30-60 aqua tech hob filter. It’s been running for months and I have a tiny bio load on my 40 breeder but cheato should still be showing some signs of growth but it isn’t. It’s a 12 led bulb fixture. White and blue and says 7k-8k and is 6watts and is inches away from the water. Bright as heck... wondering if the OP had luck with his 6watt led or anyone else. I’m new here and posted on the board the other day and no one has responded so figured I would ask in a similar post. Thanks.
