Hello! I’ve noticed my tank (mostly my sand) seems to start looking gross during the colder months of the year. I have a well established tank, so this is despite no changes and stable parameters. The sand looks great during the summer months.

Am I crazy or has anyone else noticed this kind of thing?

Yes, for me it's mostly about CO2 and PH

When the weather is mild I can have windows open and the PH goes up, which is better for coral growth (which leads to less algae, etc). When it's very cold or hot (we get both) everything is closed up and CO2 accumulates and PH goes down (opposite - less good for corals, more algae)

I'll have to take measurements on this. I'm curious. I'll have an outside line with my new tank next summer. It'll be interesting.
