Does any one know what these perfect circles are on my live rock? Tank is about 6 weeks old.
Also I don’t think it’s my lights do to the fact that my lights are off on the top 3 photos.

Were there ever frag plugs on the rock - that were removed? Do you have snails/urchins/etc - that could be eating the algae? (or fish)

No frags yet, no nothing that eats algae that I’m aware of, even then i don’t think it would be a perfect circle. And not over night. They don’t really pick at the rock work either. They do from time to time but I don’t see chunks take.

Fish lis:
clown
blue hippo tang
Pj cardinal
2 coral beauty angelfish 1 orange and 1 blue
Humbug damsel
Six line wrase
Blue neon goby
Watchman goby
Sand sifting starfish

6 weeks with this many fish, yowza.

Circles just look like spots where algae isn't growing.
Yes true but 1/4 of the water and about 20lbs of sand is from my old tank, helped me cycle faster.

Those spots were covered green like the areas around it. Monday /Tuesday (2/10-11/25) this week the circle are there that’s what’s making no sense to me. I’ve had one appear on my sand bed as well.

If you move your hand above them, between the water and light, do they dissapear?
No I’ve tried that and I’ve also tried scrubbing around with my rubber tip feeding tube and it doesn’t flack off or get bigger or smaller…

The aquarium lights are off on the first 3 photos and the circles are still there.

The tangs are probably starting at a point then eating their way around since it’s easier to get to from an edge already started

That is a possibility but I don’t think it could be in a circle. Ive seen it pick at the rock work it’s more random.

So if I understand correctly a while ago rocks were all covered with algae Now there are some circles. They are all under the same lighting conditons and nutrients. So either there is something toxic keeping the algae from growing on those spaces.Or those spaces have less nutrients for whatever reason . Or. Something is eating the algae.

I hope nothing toxic. Nutrients are the same I don’t see how that would differ through out the tank with the amount of flow I have.

I guess I’ll have to put a nvg camera up and see what’s going on lol

Something toxic was the least likely. And that can be as simple as something outcompeting the other algae as compared to a general tank poison
