Hey all
I have been dosing silica in my tank for about the past month to beat prorocentrum dinos. While I have noticed a reduction in the quantity of dinos I seem to be dosing a crazy amount of silica. I have a 15G tank and have been dosing .4ml of 41 degree sodium silicate every day. I started with .2 but didn't have a noticeable increase on my salifert silicate test. So i've been stepping it up. From what I've read on the topic I thought I only needed a very small amount to make a huge difference.
I cannot recall how I got my original dosing amount but it didn't make a dent in my dino population until I stepped it up. Should I just keep increasing daily until I get a bacterial bloom? The silicate is being taken up as I still only get around 1 on the test kit.

Salifert test detects no SiO2 for most people - even when dosing known SiO2 products into set volumes of water. Seachem detects around ~1ppm without difficulty and so is fine for this purpose. Hanna quantifies Sio2 well from below 0.10 to 2.00ppm SiO2.

Thanks! I'll see if picking up a seachem kit allows for better tracking metrics.
