First Tank - Clownfish Harem + BTA Reefer 300xl

Tank has been going for 80ish days. Goal is to setup the tank as a Clownfish Harem + BTA. Clownfish are about 3 weeks in the tank all from the same clutch. BTAs were added about 1 week ago and still trying to figure out how to get them to settle in. Feeding 4x day pellets.

Still working on...
- trying to get the wiring cleaned up (I have OCD)
- figure out how to deal with these Hyroid Medusas
- getting my BTAs to settle in (added 1 week ago)
- adjusting my lighting schedule so I don't get so much green algae growth
- finding a battery backup solution
- installing Reefmat 500

Very interested and want to follow along as well.

It is my intention to setup a harem myself. I have decided to wait until I have 60-100 anemones for them to share. Got about 20 so far in the tank.

Also purchased a pair to grow out and try my hand at raising a clutch.

Have you seen the BRS video about setting up a harem?

I’m very interested to see how this goes and also rooting for you and this to work.

I know you didn’t ask, but as they mature you will possibly needs lots more nems to sedate aggression. Like maybe 30 ish

Even BRS said they had to add more because they underestimated.

Looking amazing and I’m following along and wishing you success. Down to throw around ideas, but I’ll attempt to keep the rest of my unsoliacited advice to myself

Clowns and nems are my fav.

Yes I watched the BRS video on the Clown harem (like 20 times lol). AND you are absolutely right. I think the clownfish need mature nems to sedate aggression. I should have got larger nems (like 2-3 inches in diameter) vs smaller ones (I got 0.5 - 1 inch ones). I think after I get back from Christmas, I will look for more nems; maybe a different color of BTAs like green BTAs or rainbows.

About 2 weeks ago I lost 3 fish from what I think was aggression... and it happened during the night time. At night / when there is no light, the clowns like to clump together very tightly. I think when this happens this is when a clown gets hurt. I found that if I had a small spot light / night light on, the clowns don't clump up so much. So far I haven't had another dead clown (knock on wood!).

I also scaled back my feeding schedule. Instead of 4x per day, two rotations of my autofeeder each time I just do 4x per day. My nitrates were getting up to 20 - 25ppm. Last Sunday I did a 50% water change and reduced feeding and the nitrates are in better control. Plus my tank glass was not 'fogging' up so quickly.

Or sure poke around on fb and with local reefer n those here on reef2reef. I know rainbow bubble tips get huge and split lots. Sometimes people try to give them away.

Maybe get Luky and find someone with a rock full to sell on the cheap!!
