are there any hacks around buying Hanna nitrate reagent and phosphate reagent? In other words, can i buy the same chemical reagent in a cheaper form?

Not the same reagent but you can correlate with a calibration curve the color intensity of other vendor test kits with the Checker, unfortunately, not all vendors have the same quality standard and the color may vary between reagent batches. This is not simple switch nor is it difficult,

Other reagents can work, as Dan stated. Batches can vary wildly though;

Thanks everyone- im at the point where im testing daily because I am obsessed with seeing how increasing corals in my tank is affecting my nutrient levels. I even got the stupid little funnel from fishofhex to pour the packets into so I dont spill the reagent powder.

There's an article by Reefbuilders about using API reagents in a Hanna HR Nitrate checker and getting some semblance of good results - I haven't tested this as I don't have Hanna reagents

I have tested Salifert PO4 reagents in the Hanna Phosphate ULR and it does give 'close enough' results in the range of 0.07-0.2 ppm (the ranges of the tanks I'm currently running)

Unsure if they correlate linearly outside of this range.

I bought a bundle of 3 reagents. Only needed 2 of them. Seller was unwilling to break up the bundle. Bought all 3 for 22$ but don’t need the ULN phosphate. Dm if interested
