I see GSP growing on the back wall of aquariums all the time. GSP, xenia and some others are possible and sometimes even difficult to control lol. No pics, but it's doable.

Now I regret it because of poly toxins.

here are a few kinds of sps encrusted into my vase, they are flat because that's the adapted morph based on conditions within the bowl, there was only a 1/2 inch gap between the live rock stack and the glass wall, so the sps only formed a sheet as it spread across the flower vase like an eyepatch. I finally burned it all out with vinegar, to free the bowl back up for another growth round. in some of the pics, years old sps encrusting built a literal fringing reef at the water break, and red mushrooms took that living sps over and killed it off just like happens to real reefs after they encrust and lose a turf war to something more adapted, all in good fun.

alveopora on glass

this is also blue sps as a macro, showing the cross hatching way the matrix is laid, and also red brain creeping up glass.

Interesting thing about corals and glass: sps fuse to it, all lps do not, which implies structural differences between the two and the structure of glass itself. Ive tested many species and reliably, lps will not bond to it they just ride on top, amazing.

I use Aqua Mags to mount some of my SPSs. Right now have a good piece of Ponape Birds Nest growing on my overflow.
