Hey everyone, I'm curious if anyone has used or setup any HOB Overflow/Sump options? I would really like to set up a sump in my system to get all of the unnecessary cords and equipment out of my tank.

I have one running on my system as long as you keep it clean you should not have an issue.

I switched to a sump with a Life Reef HOB overflow about 6 months ago. I am very happy with it and I have had zero issues with it.

I've been running my 75g for 5 years now with an eshopps HOB overflow with no issues at all. I set up a small 20g in my workshop last winter and that has an eshopps HOB as well. Like was mentioned you need to clean it once or twice a year.

Your tanks are beautiful, thank you for sharing! It looks like it's going to be worth it to setup.

Thank you @xiholdtruex, hopefully, he will be willing to share that experience!
Hey yeah I have had mine for over a year with no issues. I firmly believe 90% of the horror stories come from poor husbandry. My setup is fairly simple and straight forward, I have an eshopps hob overflow with flex tubing to the sump and a return pump with flex tubing to the tank.

the key is to either have a pump you can regulate the intensity or have a gate Valve to regulate flow. Once both are in synch there will be little to worry. I do monthly cleaning of the HOB overflow to avoid Algae growth as much As I can.

One thing I did in mine when I set it up the first time is run multiple drills of power outages/pump failures and also syphon breaks to make sure in the even of either both the sump and the tank can take the excess of water but if you want you can also have some sensors do that for you now lol.

if you have any questions let me know.

Thank you so much! Is the flex tubing better than using regular PVC or was it a personal choice?

I've also been running a Lifereef HOB overflow for several years now. We have frequent power outages where i live as well as the pumps shutting down and restarting during feedings every day and I have yet to have it fail to restart. I did alot of research when I was setting up the sump and the Lifereef came out on top. I couldn't be happier with my choice!
