I decided on getting the PF-1000 HOB overflow box, but I realized I don't know how to connect that to my sump. I want to use it with flexible PVC-reinforced Vinyl tubing because I'm not confident with rigid PVC gluing and all that.

The PF-1000 has ribbed bulkhead sticking out from the bottom of the box. Am I supposed to screw something onto that? Or is that where I fit the vinyl tubing directly onto it? Usually when fitting vinyl flexible tubing, it fits onto a barbed pipe. The PF-1000 bulkhead doesn't seem to be barbed, hence my thoughts that something is supposed to screw into it?

If I need to screw something in, would that be a barbed attachment? Would I need to also glue the attachment to the bulkhead after I screw it in, or would screwing it in be good enough (no leaks)?

TLDR; See below, the bulkhead at the bottom is ribbed as if something needs to be screwed in:

I want to attach this EZ-Flo PVC reinforced vinyl tubing:

How can I do this?

Slip the fitting inside of the bulkhead with pvc cement and then hose goes on the barb. Use a stainless hose clamp for added strength.

Thanks for the photo. Since the Eshopps bulkhead has ribbed nozzle, wouldn't that let water escape through the ribbed pattern, unless I apply globs of glue? The barb attachment you showed has a smooth inner lining so I assume I won't be a tight fit onto the ribbed nozzle unless I basically paint loads of glue to seal everything?

Also a side question, is there a standard attachment I can use to screw into the bulkead since it looks like I'm supposed to screw something in? Like what did Eshopps have in mind when they made that ribbed nozzle? Is there a standard we're supposed to follow for attaching stuff?

I'm all for gluing non-standard parts if necessary, but if Eshopps is intending the ribbed nozzle to be fitted with something that can be screwed in, I'd rather explore that first.

slip the fitting INSIDE the bulkhead, not over it
ah sorry now I'm even more confused. The bulkhead is the entire black thing that holds the sponge on the inside and the ribbed nozzle that extends out of the box right? It's one piece?

Are you saying to take the entire black thing out (bulkhead), and replace it entirely with the white attachment you showed me?

This is my first overflow project so I'm not familiar with plumbing parts at all.

Slip the white fitting inside the bottom where the water drains out…

There are two black tubes coming out the bottom, you need to slip a barbed fitting into each of those “tubes” and then connect your hose. Leave the bulkheads and sponges in place.

gotcha, thanks. The PF-1000 has a 1 inch bulkhead, but since the barbed attachment needs to be slightly smaller to fit INSIDE the black tube, do you know the exact size I need for the barbed attachment? Or do I just need to go to Home Depot / Lowes to try every attachment?

If I find one that screw onto the bulkheads coming out of the bottom, do I need to apply cement or pvc glue? Or is screwing them in just fine?

The threads on a bulkhead are meant only for the nut, do not thread anything else onto the outer threads of a bulkhead. you can damage the threads, break the bulkhead, and cause leaks even with teflon tape. Use the slip to barbed fitting and glue it into the bulkhead.

Thanks, I have a better understanding now!

Is there a single glue (like superglue) I can use, or do I need to use a primer+cement for this?

Primer and cement is the right way to do it. You will want pvc cement and a minimum, but I believe cpvc also works. You will need to do some googling to confirm. It creates a complete bond between the bulkhead and fitting and superglue does not
