I have ich in my reef tank. My fish seem healthy and fine but the white spots seem to be getting a little worse. My plan right now is to take all the fish out of my tank and put them into a QT tank with a lower salinity than usual- about (1.020) and treat them with copper. I have a copper banded butterfly, sailfin tang, hippo tang, powder brown, a scopas tang, and a yellow tang. I have an SPS only reef tank. Should I raise my display tank to 81° and leave the tank fallow for 72 days without fish? I’ve seen to leave the tank fallow for 5 days without fish to 72 days. Any other ideas on what I should do? Should I go through with my plan or do something else?

The higher temp generally applies to velvet but may shorten the ich cycle time. No advantage to 1.020 but take it to 1.023 and treat for a full 30 days at coppersafe level 2.25 with added aeration using an air stone and you can leave tan fallow 6-8 weeks with 8 weeks better. 72 days is an old recommendation but you can extend to 72 days if you wish

Okay, also are copper banded butterfly’s sensitive to copper power?

60 days at 81 degrees is fine as long as your corals can tolerate it. It can be as short as 45 days, above 81.
What copper are you using?
