Is there a nano skimmer that doesn't suck?

Unfortunately the tunze 9001 is out because it won't fit in my sump. Every other nano I look at, and I've seen a lot, seems to have a 3 star rating or worse.

No there isn't. A nano skimmer doesn't even make a lot of sense because there is not enough space to get dry foam. A skimmer needs a minimum size to be efficient.
There are better options of removing nutrients in nano tanks.

Look up the Magtool MT-SQ50 on Amazon, it will be a real tight fit, but I think you might be able to fit it in the secondary chamber. I have one on my 50 IM and it has far surpassed my expectations. I previously had the Icecap K1 Nano that was absolute garbage.

The dimensions for the MT-SQ50 is L2.78" x W3.7", H 13.8".

I had to elevate it little bit higher using some foam and frag tiles, which allowed me to run the pump at about 50% max power. Because of that, I consistently get a real nice, dark skimmate in the 2 months I've had it.

i have the magnus bubble q mini on my waterbox 25. works good. just took awhile to break in and get it dialed in right
That looks extremely promising. How's the noise? Any plastic rattle like other nanos? It's going in my bedroom.

I don’t have one so this is just from what I’ve heard but supposedly the Bubble Magus Mini Q is pretty good. I am considering getting one for my 15g tank.
Yes yes yes. I have tried them all. The tunze, icecap, eshoppes, and IM. They were all mediocre.

For almost half the price the bubble magus mini q is light years better than all of them.

The build quality and materials are that of a product meant to last. The pump is better. You can't hear it. The mounting solution included actually works, on all tanks. The drain tube works so I don't have to pop off the cup all the time. But that doesn't matter because the cup fits perfectly and is easy to remove and replace.

There is no other answer. If anyone tells you something different it's because they haven't used a miniq. I could go on about this device forever. It's the one thing that the nano game lacked.

I like my MiniQ's performance, but I am not a fan of the microbubbles. I can't seem to escape them.
I don't have any bubbles at all with mine. Although I dropped it in a tank that was ran skimmerless for about a year. I did have plenty to skim. Break in was about 4 hours.

My ice cap makes them though... For months on end not sure if it's ever gonna stop.

Best Nano Skimmer I've ever used is the Bubble Magus NAC-QQ. Though the version I had was in desperate need of a silencer, which I cannibalized from a broken Tunze 9004.

How the current revisions are though, I can't quite say.

Mini q is equally awesome but can't handle tanks as large as the QQ. But it's stone silent out of the box.

I've been using the AQUATICLIFE 115 Mini Internal Protein Skimmer for a year and a half with good results. At the time I purchased it, the options I'd been shown were expensive and not really what I was looking for. I'd waffled over getting a skimmer at all for my 15 gallon tank, but I'm glad I did.
Microbubbles were gone in a few days, the air tube intake needs cleaning every few months to clear it of buildup.

I second this, I have one on my 14 cube and it is excellent, it is way over built too which is a good thing.

I’m about two weeks mine will be up for grabs as I’m shutting down my 14. If you are interested I’ll cut you a sweet deal on it, it only has a couple months use on it.

I muddled about with a couple before I settled on the Magtool DCSQ-70SLIM For my 32 gallon AIO

a couple of things:

1. I had to mount sideways to get it to fit.
2. It’s a bit finicky about water level. I got it before I installed an ATO and it was a bit of a pain to get it consistently skimming.

now: works well.
