I’m sure you guys see this stuff every 30 seconds, but I was wondering if someone could help me identify what this is in my tank.

My tank is about two months old, so that’s what had me confused about getting diatoms but it just may be my newness to the hobby.

Looks to me like a little of hair algae, but others with more experience may differ. I had the same thing in my system as part of the normal ugly phase. Got some snails that took care of it in a relatively short time.

Might want to look into a real clean up crew. There's a lot of places online to pick up a crew. I usually try to buy them at my local store. Even if they sometimes cost double that way. I'd go grab at least 40 medium sized turbo snails for the time being. That GHA has just started. Just a phase, but you'll want to get on top of it now.

Thanks for that. I will say, this algae is brown. I had GHA in a different stage, but that was due to a massive light upgrade a month back. This one is more of a stringy/brown algae, but resembles the form factor of GHA.

Think turbo snails would still be a good call? I have 3-4 in there now and they dont seem to touch it.
