This doesnt really help since most are, but its an armored species.

There’s a few things you can do/try ... firstly Dino’s normally show up when no3 en po4 have been at zero for a while .. so test and adjust as necessary .. get them raised if still a 0
Next stop cleaning your glass for a few week s and let other algae build up to out compete the Dino’s ..
Next syphon as much out every day as you can ..
You can try dosing peroxide it worked for me. Build it up slowly ...
If you’ve got no sps in your tank you could try lights out for 3 days , sps won’t do well with this method !
Read this thread as well

Fluxonal will work but we can’t get it here in Europe as it’s banned !!
Not sure about the uk ,if your from there
Good luck

There’s a table somewhere on here for it .. but if I remember correctly I was dosing 18 ml per day 9 ml in the morning and another 9 ml after lights out .. that was on a 90g tank !!!
I would start at 1 ml 2x pd and increase by .5 every couple of days .. whatcha your skimmer you might have to turn it down
I never noticed any adverse affects from dosing on my corals or invertebrates

I am starting a black out tonight with sheets covering the tank. I started dosing Hydrogen peroxide 3% since last night started with 1ml today 2ml. I have a 70gallon tank but i will assume with sand and rocks it is only 60gallons of water so my goal will be 6ml of H202. No positive or adverse effects yet. I have also been syphoning the dinos off the sand bed. However since the lights are off they are now "invisible" floating in the water column somewhere. I have been reading about UV sterilizers online but would like to avoid it if i can. Has any one heard any info on these? Also Phos is now .02ppm from 0 would dosing possibly help to elevate it ? Nitrates are 4ppm. Will also update back after the blackout.

There is a big thread on this that is a sticky. In most cases blackout and h2o2 do not seem to work. Most people seem to have more luck raising no3 and po4 with the use of an over-sized UV. Myself, I really want to drop a messing "fatman" on it.

I’m totally new to testing with. Microscope. What is the procedure to actually test the Dino’s?

Microscope test you are looking for shape and mode of movement. As well as the presence of armor and how that armor is shaped.

Some examples of other organisms mistaken for dinos.

Scoop up some of the stuff however you can. Keep it wet. Put it on a glass slide. Put a cover slip over the specimen. Put the slide on the stage. Turn on light. Use the lowest power objective lens (the shortest of the circle of lens near the specimen.) Look in the eyepiece and turn the focus knobs on the side of the scope until the specimen is focused. Now turn to the next largest objective lens, without changing either focus knob at all. Now look again, and this time only use the fine adjustment focus knob. Move the slide around a bit. Depending on the scope, you may be able to go up one more objective lens, although the most powerful one sometimes requires something called oil immersion. Dinos come in some different shapes, but many are roundish to oblong, and some have a dimple in one end. Under the scope, some will look like a tetherball whirling around at the end of a rope.

Got it! Thank you. I got pictures and video of the Dino’s. Any help in identifying? My system is ULN and I just started dosing nitrates and phosphate a few days ago. Too early to tell, it appears that the Dino is thinning? Could be just me though.

Dinos definitely, but not sure what species that is. Not entirely typical for the few I'm familiar with (ostreopsis, amphidinium, prorocentrum, symbiodinium).

You appear to have the same Dinos as me, which have been identified as Coolia. A tough SOB to kill. However, go over to the main dino thread to get a positive ID for sure. However, its not amphiudium from what i can tell too your solution would probably be the same as the rest. Raise nutrients, ad a UV sterilizer, and add biodiversity. I have mine down to a light dusting on the sand just not 100% gone. I added 6k copepods, daily phytoplankton, raised nutrient and added a low grade uv sterilizer which i may upgrade to finish them off. They say Coolia is the same treatment just takes a lot longer due to the armored cells.
