I picked up this purple tang cheap. I'm pretty sure it has HHLE. I've been feeding my homemade fish food soaked in Selcon ,spirulina brine shrimp, nori,Sprungs sea veggies and fresh clams. I have some LRS foods coming in soon to feed too. Other than diet what is reccomend to treat it? It doesn't seem stressed at all and eats like a pig. My water quality is good with nitrates around 5 ppm and other parameters also in spec.

It is which causes pits and flesh missing mainly in tangs, angels and some rabbitfish. It is often caused by poor water quality, high use of carbon, poor water quality (elevated nitrate and ammonia) and inadequate/poor diet. It is not life threating in any way but offers secondary infection in some cases.
Maintaining GOOD water quality and diet are often the fixes and with severe cases, some healing.
Some foods to feed tang are :
LRS herbivore diet
Formula 2 flake and frozen
TDO Pellets
small plankton
Hikari Marine cuisine
Ocean nutrition veggie diet
spirulina brine shrimp
mysis shrimp
Prime reef
Nori seaweed basted with garlic extract

Add selcon vitamins to foods occasionally

Yes, that's HLLE. Here is a synopsis of a research paper I did on that:

Thanks Jay. Do you think I'm on the right path as far as treating the problem?

That, and avoid using carbon filtration in that tank. However, past carbon use can leave residual carbon dust that will still continue to cause HLLE. Also, when HLLE reaches a certain level of scarring, the fish won't grow back the lost pigments.
