During this time of year. Some might need a reminder, we are here for the creatures in the tank!

Buying tons of gear for a reef tank can easily become a waste of time and money. The market is flooded with fancy gadgets that claim to "optimize" your tank, but most of them aren’t really necessary for a healthy reef. You can achieve great results with basic equipment, and focusing too much on high-tech gear just fuels consumerism and waste. Plus, constantly upgrading leads to unnecessary e-waste and environmental impact. The real joy in this hobby comes from learning about the ecosystem, not from how much you spend. Save your cash, focus on the basics, and enjoy the process!

This hobby is whatever the hobbyist wants to make it. Whether that’s biology, chemistry, or gear is up to them
Absolutely agree! Wasn't digging at anyone or their goals. Just woke up to the deal after deal. and had to remind myself why I am in the hobby and thought it might be a nice to share.

I think I understand the premise of this thread. Although I tend to agree to a point. It's not that black and white. I don't think "creatures" is something worth dumping all your disposable income on this holiday.

Gear definitely has a place, and it's becoming difficult for hobbyist to tell who is a hobbyist disguised as a salesman. Which means it's difficult for the hobbyist to know what gear is worth getting and what gear is simply a cash grab.

Shining a light on "creatures" might not be the best approach either. If there's a message to the industry, it needs to be a focus on inflated cost. And us as hobbyist exposing the shills that create these inflated demands.

I am so glad that this thread is still open! Making statements that could rub others raw is a huge risk. I applaud @BARNAKEWLZ for starting what could easily become a huge brawl as eager shoppers are GEARED up to purchase every deal being offered to them.

And to the rest of the respondents who have thus far kept a lid on their/ our enthusiasm. (Good Job!)

I would really like to drop a bomb here to get the riot started, but He came to bring Peace, not a sWORD.

Thank you, Again, I have the upmost respect for all in the community. This thread is not to stir any pots or strike a nerve. I just had a feeling and thought to share. and maybe it might help others. or maybe not. The choice is yours to make. and if there is that special something that you have your eye on. I hope you get a good deal on it! Cheers and happy reefing

I love this time of the year because of all the sales. Been in this hobby for 20 years and I know exactly what I need for my reef to be successful so I stock up at this time of the year.

I also know all the gimmicks now from the vendors and know what is a good deal or not.

A sizable number of us are in the hobby just because we enjoy the inhabitants in our tanks. Not to acquire tubs of stuff we don’t need or use. There are times when I wonder about the direction of RtR. However every time I find something useful.

I agree. I am here for the health of the fish and, on top of that, proof that this can be done fully automated! I love the puttering with the gear ... don't you?
I disagree with automation on so many levels, but I am glad you enjoy it!:beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Never snorkled on an automated reef either. :smiling-face-with-sunglasses: :face-with-hand-over-mouth:
