So I just added some magnesium and calcium. I noticed my levels were not great so I raised the calcium to 400ppm from 380 and the magnesium to 1290ppm from 1250ppm.

I did this over 12 hours and the Xenia have not opened as well nor are they all pulsing….

The other corals look super happy and more colourful. I also fed the tank with Live phyto for the first time yesterday and dossed seachem reef plus.

Usually the pulsing Xenia was a bright pink full and lush and now it’s a darker pink purple, not fully extended and some sucked in and some pulsing others are not?…

Is this stress from the change and will they an adapt?

Encrusting gorginan is also not opening.

Alk is 12
Calcium 400
Magnesium 1290
PH 7.8-8
Nitrates 2.6
Phos under .25
SG 1.026
Temp 77

I’ve done this before, not to long ago….i was chasing numbers, and then I raised the magnesium slowly…the next day all my corals were unhappy. I use instant ocean reef salt mix, so it already has calcium and magnesium…once I did a water change all of my corals went back to normal and were open and happy.

I hope I don’t need to do that because I’m using seachem vibrant sea and the magnesium and calcium had stunted the growth of my LPS. That’s why I increased the amounts in hopes I would help growth.

Hoping this is short lived because I think changing water again will stress them out more than letting them acclimate to the new amounts. LPS are open more than I’ve ever had before and all the other leathers are open and happy too.

When I first added the Xenia it did this for a few days I just remembered. I think it was water change from store to my tank. Fingers crossed that’s all this is.

Encrusting gorgonian just began opening up again! So fingers crossed!

I’ve had issues growing coral one algae also, and that’s another reason over added magnesium and calcium

Mine get weird sometimes when adding stuff.
I wouldn't over think it too much xenia is pretty much a weed and soon you'll be trimming it back, believe me I know.
Think you're OK!
Alk is a touch high IMO but nothing to stress over.

Oh really?! I didn’t know I have alway aimed for 12-12.5 ! What should it be??? That makes me mad because my specialty store told me 12-12.5 was optimal! These aren’t petsmart workers this is the owner who is a specialist in reef keeping.

Can you tell me where alkalinity should be?

8 to 11, 12 is fine, no worries.
I keep mine @7-9.
Every tank is different.
His may be perfect there.
Heavy load =using more alk.
Keep it higher it won't go down super low, cool?
I've known people who have kept it at 14.
My tank likes 8.5
It uses a bit every 3 days but I only have softies.
Make sense?

What exactly did you add?
Ok so last night I added seachem reef calcium liquid 3 capfuls maximum dosage for 20 gallons per day. Then in the morning tested and added 2 more capfuls.

I tested alkalinity was still 12.

Next I added reef advantage seachem magnesium 10g after mixing till dissolved in a cup of fresh distilled water.

Did the testing 15 min later and numbers seemed great to me?

Seachem Reef calcium is an unusual product that adds both calcium and some uncertain amount of alkalinity. Seachem does not mention the alk, likely because they do not understand it, despite my trying to explain it to them.

I’d avoid using it.
